WSET Level 2 Award in Wines Online

The Level 2 course is ideal for the candidate who has some level of wine knowledge.

This course suits people employed across a broad spectrum of the hospitality and drinks industry, to have an internationally recognised qualification from a global leader in wine education, or lay the groundwork for becoming a sommelier.

On successful completion you will be able to describe and compare the styles of wines produced from internationally and regionally important grape varieties.

You will know how to interpret wine labels from the main wine producing regions of the world, and how to store, serve, taste and pair wines to get the best out of every glass.

The online classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial.

You must be at least 18 years old to enrol on any of our courses.

Online format and important notes

The duration of the online course is 5 weeks.
We recommend a total of 6 hours of study per week.
You will follow a module online learning programme that covers the same syllabus as the in-person classroom course.
You are allowed to work ahead or you can catch up on forums, activities and such if required.
The course has no set time to log in.
There or no live chats or seminars.
You will have educator support available during this time and can contact them if you have any questions during the 5 weeks

During each week you will participate in independent and/or group activities to help you understand wine label terminology and recognise the styles produced by the main grape varieties in key wine regions.

Please participate in the activities, it is important during any online course and please taste a wide range of wines during your online studies.

The required wines can be found in the online Equipment List and a list of other recommended wines is in the Course Specifications.
You can post your tasting notes in the Online Classroom your educator to review and provide you with feedback.

After the 5 weeks course you will continue  to have access to the content for one year, but you will not be able to participate in the discussion forum and interact with your classmates anymore.

You will need access to a computer (recommended) and/or HTML5 compatible mobile or tablet.

How environmental factors, grape-growing, winemaking and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties:
Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz

The style and quality of wines made from 22 regionally important grape varieties (e.g. Nebbiolo, Malbec and Viognier) produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world

How grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of Sparkling wines and Fortified wines

Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality

Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine

Principles of food and wine pairing

Online guidance on how to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level  2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Exam / Assessment

The Level 2 Award in Wines exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions

Exam must be completed in one hour.

Pass                            55% - 69%

Pass Merit                 70% - 84%

Pass Distinction:      85% and above

The course is designed to be fully online that includes a computer-based testing via Remote Invigilation (RI) to take your exam. You will be monitored via webcam, screen sharing technology and a secondary recording device during your exam to ensure integrity with the qualification.

Successful students will receive a WSET digital certificate
